Pott Shrigley C of E Primary School - Class 3 2025 - 2026
Mrs Kennedy
Welcome to Class 3
I am very excited for my second year at Pott Shrigley. It was sad to say goodbye to the year six children but I know they are well prepared for their next journey of learning.
Our new Class 3 team are incredible and I am sure we are going to have a fantastic year together.
Autumn Term
In Maths, we all focus on the core principles of Place Value to start the year. This is the basis of all maths understanding and will set all the pupils up well for their learning this year. Good luck to all our fantastic Mathematicians.
Our first English text is ‘Leaf' by Sandra Dieckmann. This beautiful story weaves together some of today's difficult themes - belonging, climate change and refugees - into a deceptively simple tale. As well as having some important debates and discussions, the children will be learning the literary techniques needed to produce their own Outsider Narrative and Information Report.
Our first History topic is 'The Stone Age'. We will be learning all about this fascinating prehistoric time and the early humans who lived then. We will be exploring what early man needed to survive in their environment, how they progressed with tools and what impact they had on early Britain.
In Science, we start with a topic called 'Reuse, Reduce, Recycle'. We will be learning about sustainability and the impact of our lifestyles on our world.
In RE, we are thinking about journeys and pilgrams. We will study some of the famous journeys that were undertaken in the Bible and what we can still learn about these pilgrams today.
In Art this term, our focus will be '3D structures'. We will explore how different materials can be shaped and joined and the techniques we need to create 3D structures.
This term, PE will be on a Tuesday. The children will need to attend school in their PE kit every Tuesday. Class 3 will also have Forest School every Friday. Spellings will be given to the class on a Monday morning and tested on a Friday. I will be giving the children techniques and guidance of how best to learn these weekly words in preparation for the test. Reading for pleasure is an important focus for us and we encourage the children to read as much as possible. Support from home to encourage this vital life skill will be greatly appreciated.
Please do not hesitate to contact me through Dojo if you have any questions or worries about your child’s learning.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs Kennedy
