Welcome to Class 2.

I am very excited for our first term for this academic year.  We have an exciting and ambitious learning journey planned for our Autumn term.

In Maths, Years 2 and 3 will focus on Place Value. Year 2 will be working with numbers up to 100 and Year 3 are extending this learning into numbers up to 1000.

Our English text is ‘The King Who Banned the Dark’ by Emily Howarth-Booth. This fantastic story that will capture the children’s imagination and challenge the children’s powers of persuasion!

Our History topic is Kings and Queens. We will be learning all about significant monarchs in British History and thinking about the choices their made during their reign.  We will look at timelines, laws and the structure of the British monarchy.

Our Scientific learning this term begins with Plants. We will be experimenting and investigating the growth of plants, considering the conditions they need to thrive.

In RE, we are thinking about how Harvest is celebrated and the importance of harvest in the lives of Christians. 

In Art this term, our focus will be drawing'. We will be developing our observational drawing skills and learning about different drawing tools and techniques.

This term, PE will be on a Tuesday. The children will need to attend school in their PE kit every Tuesday. Year 2 will also have Dance every Friday and Year 3 will join Class 3 at Forest school. Spellings will be given to the class on a Friday morning and tested on the following Friday. I will be giving the children techniques and guidance of how best to learn these weekly words in preparation for the test. Reading for pleasure is an important focus for us and we encourage the children to read as much as possible. Support from home to encourage this vital life skill will be greatly appreciated.
