Pott Shrigley C of E Primary School - Class 2 2026 - 2027

Mrs Kennedy

Welcome to Class 2

Autumn Term:

A big welcome back to all our families after our summer break. I am very excited to be starting a new year with our 3, 4, 5 and 6 pupils.

In Maths, we will be progressing through the Autumn term of the White Rose mixed-age scheme of learning.

Our first English text is ‘Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. This multi-layered, magical book follows 12-year-old Percy Jackson as he discovers he is a demigod and embarks on a cross-country quest to recover Zeus's stolen master bolt. The children will be learning the literary techniques needed to produce their own Myth Narrative and Persuasive Letter.

Our first History topic is 'Leisure and Entertainment' which will cover how people have accessed and enjoyed sport, television, movies and technology throughout the 20th Century. We will often use role-play, creative writing, and source analysis to compare fairness and develop historical skills.

In Science, we start with a topic called 'Classification, Blood and the Human Body'. We will be learning about how we group living things, what is in our blood and how our hearts work.

In RE, we are thinking about how the Psalms and our Christian Values help us learn more about the origins of our Christian Faith and how we can use them to help us in our own lives.

This term, PE will be on a Tuesday. The children will need to attend school in their PE kit every Tuesday.

Class 2 will also have Forest School every Friday.

Spellings will be given to the class on a Monday morning and tested on a Friday. I will be giving the children techniques and guidance of how best to learn these weekly words in preparation for the test.

Reading for pleasure is an important focus for us and we encourage the children to read as much as possible. Support from home to encourage this vital life skill will be greatly appreciated.

Please do not hesitate to contact me through Dojo if you have any questions or worries about your child’s learning.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs Kennedy
