Pott Shrigley C of E Primary School - Class 3 2025 - 2026
Mrs Kennedy
Welcome to Class 3
Happy New Year!
Spring Term
In Maths, we will be progressing through the spring term of the White Rose sceme of learning. All the children have made fantastic progress in the Aurumn term and will be building on this knowledge and understanding towards the summer term.
Our first English text is ‘FArTHER' by Grahame Baker-Smith. This multi-layered, magical picture book draws us into a world of impossible dreams: dreams that, while beautifully described and hauntingly evocative, are tinged with despair. As well as having some important debates and discussions, the children will be learning the literary techniques needed to produce their own Setting Narrative and Letter.
Our first History topic is 'Crime and Punishment' which will cover Anglo-Saxon wergild, Tudor stocks, Victorian prisons and the rise of police. We will often use role-play, creative writing, and source analysis to compare fairness and develop historical skills. Key periods include Roman Britain, Anglo-Saxon England, Tudors (public punishment), Stuarts (witch trials), Georgians (highwaymen), Victorians (police, transport), and modern Britain, encouraging debate on justice and change over time.We will also visit the Police Museum in Manchester to help bring this exciting topic to life.
In Science, we start with a topic called 'Living Things and their Habitats'. We will be learning about how plants reproduce.
In RE, we are thinking about Jesus as a teacher. We will learn more about the origins of the Lord's prayer and how the parables in the Bible can help us in our own lives.
In Art this term, our focus will be an Artrist Study. We will research the artists David Hockney and Fiona Rae and create some art pieces using these styles.
This term, PE will be on a Tuesday. The children will need to attend school in their PE kit every Tuesday. Class 3 will also have Forest School every Friday. Spellings will be given to the class on a Monday morning and tested on a Friday. I will be giving the children techniques and guidance of how best to learn these weekly words in preparation for the test. Reading for pleasure is an important focus for us and we encourage the children to read as much as possible. Support from home to encourage this vital life skill will be greatly appreciated.
Please do not hesitate to contact me through Dojo if you have any questions or worries about your child’s learning.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs Kennedy
