Pott Shrigley C of E Primary - Class 1 2026 - 2027

Mrs Williams

Welcome to the Autumn Term 2026 for Class 1

A very warm welcome back to all our families! We have had a fantastic start to the new school year, and a special well done to our Reception children, who have settled into school life amazingly well. We are so proud of how confidently they have begun their school journey, and it has been wonderful to see friendships developing across our mixed-age class.

This year, our class will continue to follow the EYFS and Key Stage 1 curriculum, providing exciting, purposeful learning experiences that meet the needs of every child. We believe strongly in learning through exploration, creativity and real-life experiences, and we are particularly excited to be heading out to Forest School. Outdoor learning is an important part of life at Pott Shrigley School, giving our children opportunities to develop independence, curiosity and a love of the natural world.

What are we learning this term?

We have lots to look forward to! In History, we will be exploring Toys and thinking about how they have changed over time. Our Science learning will take us into the fascinating world of Living Things and Their Habitats, while in Geography we will be learning more about Our Country.

Our creative subjects will be just as busy. In Art, the children will become creative artists, experimenting with lots of different media and techniques. In Music, we will be exploring tempo and developing our musical skills.

In RE, we will explore Creation before beginning to think about the story of Jesus' birth as Christmas approaches. Alongside our academic learning, our PSHE focus will be Aiming High, encouraging the children to think positively about themselves, their aspirations and what they can achieve.

Reading, Writing and Maths

Reading remains at the heart of our classroom. We will support the children's reading development through daily phonics, alongside plenty of opportunities to enjoy and share wonderful books.

In English, we will continue our Drawing Club approach, using engaging and exciting texts as a springboard for developing vocabulary, imagination, writing skills and, most importantly, a lifelong love of books. We can't wait to see where the children's imaginations take us!

In Maths, we will begin with a focus on number, building secure foundations before expanding our learning across a wide range of mathematical areas.

It is going to be a busy, exciting and creative term, full of opportunities to learn, explore and grow together. We are looking forward to making lots of wonderful memories with the children and, after all our hard work, being ready for a well-earned rest at Christmas! 🎄

Here’s to a fantastic year of learning, laughter and adventure
